It looks like possibly the rim on the mother colony curves down, under the main disk and possibly shades itself. I'd be interested to see how it responds if you were to tilt the whole piece at a steeper angle to the lights. However, I agree that this is not a piece to run 'experiments' with. Beautiful. I think I have room for that little frag though .

Here's ours... not sure what kind it is, but its grown exponentially since last june when we bought it. This is an old pic, its now added at least an inch and a half to its diameter. The original chalice was splirt into two parts, our friends have the other half and we know of one other person who has one... any ideas?

Thanks Alicia. I had it in my frag/growout tank on the sand about 24" from a Radium 250W. It gets direct light but slightly off to the side. I just moved it into the 300 this week. It's getting a little bit less light than before so we'll see how it responds.

Hopefully UCLA comes out more fired up for 'Nova. Go Bruins!
