ya real nice. how much did they cost?

Honestly, you don't want to know.
And it's really not the prices, as much as is the amount of time it takes to collect them.

honestly, i really do want to know.

i was at MAX last weekend in orange county and saw a piece of something or other really pretty piece, 1/2"x3/4". $150

i think the vendor had two similar sized peices and sold one.

Drew's got I guess a sunset monti in the back tank that I just love. It's little more than a frag last time I saw it but it absolutely glows. Brightest orange on a coral I've ever seen.

It really depends on the piece, what it is and it's size. They range from$50-350. For many of the nicer pieces on this thread, you're looking in the $150-$200 range typically. Though you may pay for a few, many of them tend to be aquired via trades with other reefers. Out of the 20-25 I've had, I think I paid for 7-8 of them. At this point, the "price" becomes much less significant.

This is pretty much the rule people follow.
Usually a chalice is sold "per eye" or per 1/2". It's amazing how small of pieces some people will make of these corals, and how much they will charge. I have no problem with people asking high prices for these corals. Mainly because if you don't want it, don't buy it. However, the good thing about chalices, is that even these tiny little pieces can grow into colonies. When I got my Watermelon it was about the size of a quarter, with only a handful of eyes. Now it's about 4 inches, with 30 or 40 eyes. It would be a lot bigger, but I've experimented with it a couple times, and taken various frags off it ranging from 1/2" to 2"s.
A real good rule of thumb is, if you find one you really like. Get in touch with that person, and see if they will work with you. Some people are very easy to deal with on here, while others only care about getting your money. You'll find much better prices on here, and sizes of corals, than you will on almost any internet site, or show. You just have to look hard, and keep up with the pieces you like.
Hope this helps,
Drew

Nothing too special, just red with white stirations and developing orange eyes; (and I really liked the picture)

where can i buy any of these?

how much do they cost?

The selling forum is a good place to start or any high end vendor here on RC.

The higher end pieces usually range from $150-$250 per fragment.
