Changing from MP40wES to MP40wQD Question

I am currently in the process of changing from the MP40wES to MP40wQD pumps. I currently have 4 MP40wES pumps in my 7'x2'x2.5' aquarium. My question is with the 40% increase in water movement can I use only 2 MP40wQD instead of 4?

I would use the same amount of pumps.
If the top end flow is too much, just dial them down a little. Maybe make them last longer?

Thanks mfinn for the response. For now I am going to keep 2 of the MP40wES and just upgrade them in the near future.
