Changing over BB or Starboard to sand

Has anyone had any experience with this? I'm thinking about starting a tank BB, but wondering if it will be totally impossible to add sand down the road without killing everything in the tank ?

I got my starboard from usplastics for less that $40 per tank. It's 1/4" thick.

I don't have the link but I got most of my BB information from Bomber's thread on here. It's a long one though, get ready for a few hours of reading.
