Changing stands and filter. Any advise?

Hi team,

I am changing my stand from the one split down the middle for the one that allows me to finally place a sump under my tank.

I have a seaclear 36Gl bowfront with a canister filter that I will be replacing with the Eshopps RS-75 sump with an overflow box, since my tank is not drilled. I will also be replacing my HOB skimmer with an SCA-301 skimmer in the sump.

I'm just trying to make things look a bit better and easier to maintain(Canisters are a pain in the a$$ to clean) I'm sure this is the reason why I have a problem with GHA. I can only clean this thing once every three or so weeks.

My biggest fear is that some of my inhabitants will suffer from the move since I have to almost empty the tank and move them to plastic bins while I change the tank to the new stand and install everything.

Also, I am afraid of a new cycle since I will also be cleaning the back wall and the sand bed. Plus I will be also adding a bunch of new water tot he tank.

If anyone has any advise they can give me or tell me things I should avoid doing, I would really appreciate it.

I pretty much did the same thing when I moved. If you keep your rock, some old sand to seed the new sand, use the media from the canister to keep that bacteria. That should help. Your live stock should be fine in bins but if your worried use a bubbler. I brought my live stock from NY to FL in bins with bubblers

I also recently have moved from a canister filter to a sump. this is the steps that I took and how everything went

1. set up all pluming and glue of the pvc
2. waited 24 hours for the glue to cure
3. drained that tank halfway in to a plastic bin.
4. removed the live rock and fish to the plastic bin
5. drained the tank of water to the sand bed
6. moved the tank to the new stand ( I was also moving my tank to a new location)
7. set up the tank with the sump and all the pluming
8. filled my tank halfway with the water from the tub.
9. moved my rock and fish back to the tank
10. filled my tank with the rest of the water from the bucket
11. topped off with new water to fill sump and tank
12. started everything backup
13. enjoy the new tank maintenance :)

Awesome recommendations. I will be taking pictures starting tonight of the before and after and hopefully all will be ok. Thank you for your recommendations.

So I am finally done with changing the stand and installing the sump. The only issue I had was with my pump. It wasn't strong enough and I had to go to my LFS and buy one.

The one thing I'm not happy with right now is the noise, but I'll try to dial things down tomorrow and see where it goes.

Here are some pics. Thank you all for your suggestions.

I'll be damned. That did the trick. I wonder why the sump doesn't come with the piece of pipe. Either way, it is much better now. Thank you all.

Quick update.

I added the pipe on the drain side, but I was still getting a bit of noise from the overflow box itself. I added the 90 degree elbow below and that brought it down to almost zero noise. I love this.

Thank you guys for all your advise.

Yeah that pvc extension below the waterline in the sump makes a huge difference, and its a simple fix. Glad the system is quiet now.

was looking at you sump setup. you media reactor you may want to have the return line go back through your sock filter again just to catch any louse practicals that may come out of the reactor.

Great minds think alike. I did that last night and I also turned it around so it sits inside the sump just in the event that it springs a leak or something along those lines.

Thank you for the recommendation.
