Cheap and simple PVC Beckett Housing. LOTS of pics.

Beckett #1408 fountain nozzle. Sometimes called a foam jet, or frothing or bubbler nozzle.

BTW, you shouldnt need a Beckett skimmer for a 10G tank:D

I did a little searching myself and found it thanks for the info but I am setting up a coral propagation tank at FIT the ten gal. was the max limit for my room and is currently skimmerless and im not planning on a beckett for it. lol

But after looking around I came up with more questions than answers.

Does the beckett need to be above the water level in the skimmer?

I think the mod he made to the end of it was due to pipe size? Could someone explain that a little more.

And the flow through the beckett should be roughly close to what?

Thanks for such quick responses.

Most are at or above the waterline, though with a good pump it shouldnt matter.

The mod to that housing? Yes, he ground it down to fit inside a smaller coupler.

900-1200gph works well, the higher pressure the better.

Another "rule" I've learned is to keep the fittings at or above 3/4" and 1" is even better. If you go smaller than 3/4" on the outlet side of the beckett your chances of backflow through the air inlet and it not functioning properly are dramatically increased.

I have had mine going for about 4 years now, and it works great. When I built mine I was told the higher the beckett and housing was the better, how ever mine had to fit under the tank so it is at the same level as the collection cup. I did use 3/4 flex from the pump to the intake of the beckett housing and 1 in. from the bottom of the beckett to the skimmer box. camera has dead battery but I will post soon.

I am a bit confused about the design.

what holds the becket firmly in place, yet still allows air inside it? from looking at the MR2 becket, it looks like everything inside the tube is sealed. is there actually some gaps between some of the fittings?

Thanks
Ryan

Yes I see that , but it looks to me like its only going into the outer , clear chamber (or the extension union). What about the black becket inside? how does air get in that????

It sucks the air in as the water shoots down the pipe. Think of it as a different large type of venturi.

ahhh ok thanks :) thats the part i was not getting. looks cool Ill have to make me one of these once my bioload outgrows the ASM G3.

looks great!

i'm curious what the airline tubing coming out of the john guest valve is for. are you using ozone or something?

Muffler originally, now connect to air flow meters.

I have a skimmer that I am thinking of converting over to a beckett style skimmer. THe one thing I was wondering is could one run a beckett purely off the drain from the main tank? Possibly using a T if there is too much flow? My sump and skimmer are going to be in the basement with my main tank on my main floor.
