the JBJ ATO is for top off. it turns on/off via a float switch.
the drew's dosing pumps are peristaltic pumps that accurately dose small amounts of liquid at a time. you hook these up to a timer for a certain period to dose a certain amount of liquid.
if you're looking to dose ca/alk - you wouldn't want to use a ATO.
btw, i have the JBJ ATO and it works great - for top off.
I have an AC Jr too. For ATO I just set it to run an aqualifter for about 1 minute each day. Instead of waiting for a 1/2 inch drop in water level to trigger the ATO unit (every 2-3 days for me), this method refills as often as you want. It's also much cheaper.
