I have about 60-70 lbs of LR for sale. Now this definitely not premium grade stuff. It is essentially base rock that has some coralline algae and other cryptic organisms. Great stuff for those looking to seed or add to their rock stack. As such, I am only asking $1.50/lb so that I can get rid of it. $70 would take the whole pile.

Sold will pick it up tomorrow! Now I should have roughly 130 to 140 lbs. Thats a decent start correct? See you in the am Jerry...

But don't you want a lot of rock? I thought for 2 reasons, one it acts as a biological filter and 2 for places to put all your corals on at different heights in the tank for lighting issues?

I know nothing is set in stone with this hobby but from all of my reading I was led to believe 1lb of rock for every gallon of water?

i should have worded that a little differently. The more live rock you have the better. I just think that it looks better to have less live rock in the display. Like seaweed89 said you can put it in your sump and it has the same effect

There appear to be "fashion trends" in reefkeeping as with anything else. Currently, it appears to be vogue to lean away from the large wall of rock and pursue a more minimalist look characterized by a couple of more deliberately crafted and almost "Zenlike" rock outcroppings. This is aesthetically pleasing, allows more swimming room for fish and allows for more water movement throughout the display. It does remain important to maintain sufficient rock to serve as a biological filter and of course to allow for coral placement and to provide secure getaways for the fish. So as with everything else, everything is a trade off. It comes down to personal taste balanced with husbandry considerations.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll learn as I go. I hope to start playing with the rock this week. Connecting some pieces. Looking at different formations.

I just realized how far off topic this thread went because of me  Too funny... See you in the am Jerry..
