Do you all know of a good place online where I can buy "cheaper" PC light bulbs. I need the 65w kind.

Also, what spectrum would you recommend for the Derasa clam and of course for the soft corals, and polyps I have. I want to bring their color.

THANKS!

drs foster and smith have decent prices and depending on how u want to do it with the lighting if i had that system i would get 2-10000k, and 2 actinic 3 and set my timers where the actinics come on 1 hour before the 10ks and keep the actinics on 1 hour after

Sunpaq vs. Odyssea bulb? (also what does catalinaaqquarium sell)

Sunpaq vs. Odyssea bulb? (also what does catalinaaqquarium sell)

Thanks onefin for that link. I am debating whether I should buy from here or from drsfostersmith.com They have some SunPaqs. What brand does catalinaaquarium sell?
Now whats the difference between Actinic 420NM and 450NM?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I was thinking of two: 420/460nm 65W
And two: 6700ºK/10000ºK 65W

Now these are SunPaq. Are they better than the Jebo PC bulbs? Would anyone know what Jebo's (Odyssea bulbs) spectrum is? I have been told the actinics are not true actinics. So what are they? And what about the non-actinic bulbs that come with that "infamous" fixture? They appear kinda yellow when by themselves, so what do you think they are?

The reason I chose two Actinics was that I really want to make my corals illuminate while I have all lights on, and not just by themselves.

chrisbenavides, it's there own brand, i've been getting my bulbs from them for years, no complants here.

I see. So would you say that makes them better, equal or (doubt)worse to the SunPaqs?

Anyone else: from the two described?

Thanks onefin for the link! :)

Just saw that Hellolights carry some bulbs too. They are more expensive, but are they beter quality? They state that their TRU actinic is truly actnic and not a blue bulb. Would you say that their 10K and Actinics bulbs are better than the cheaper SunPaqs? I would say, and would you agree or not, that anything would be better than the Jebo Odyssea bulbs, right?

I have to say anyhtng is better thqan JEBO anyhting. JEBO lights vary so much form just the smae type, its like they are different temp ratings. Sunpaqs are good, and yu wil not go wrong with them. Same for Hello lights bulbs.they are also good. Those two brands are as close to being what they shoul dbe than JEBO can eben think of being......and Hello and Sunpaq brands along with Coralife are some of the most widely used and sold bulbs out there.......

cool stuff. so it would only be a step up to buy Sunpaq? duh! :)

Now for the extra $5 a bulb, should I go for Hellolights, or its better to save the $$$$$ and go for the SunPaq?

I've used the Sunpaq bulbs without a problem. They work well. I would go with 2 10K and a 50/50 of the 420 and 460 nm.

The Hello Light bulbs are good as well, though. I think their $10/bulb was for the 4th of July.

thanks.....

I decided I am buying from the drs...but now I am debating ifI should buy 2 Coralife and 2 Sunpaqs. The Coralife because they have pure 10K and the SUnpaqs actinics.

Don't know if I should have a 10K/Actinic and Actnics. You know what I mean?

Some bulbs are better than the others, and you definately get what you pay for. The catalina bulbs have a greenish/yellowish tint to them, depending on what ballast you're running them on. I have used just about every brand and prefer the coralife bulbs the best.

the 10,000k current bulds work great for me...along with the 50/50 actinics they cast off a strong white with a hint of blue
