I came into a skimmer.....with no pump :uzi:

Is there such an animal as a cheap pump for it?

suggestions?

good question, im picking it up from my LFS on thursday. it was brought in as part of a customer trade, whatever.

ive been trying to find a picture of it, but its approx. 4" dia tube, 18" tall and sits on a rectangle base. it looks a lot like an ASM G1.

i am guessing its a low volume skimmer, no more than 65g

no markings on it what so ever, figures

You do need to know the manufacturer's flow-rate. I have an old Amiracle HOB
that just requires a basic powerhead and I control the flow with an inline ball valve. No sump required. Recently got a new powerhead on-line for about 20 bucks.

The most expensive part of a skimmer should be the pump. I wouldn't pay more then a few $ for one without a pump.

Those octopus skimmers used an OTP pump.

IMO your probably better finding one that already has a pump instead of fighting it. OTP pumps cost around $60 if memory serves correctly.
