cheata (photoplankton)

does anyone know if cheata gives off any photoplankton, i know its the best plant right now for filtration but does it have any other benefits, and does anyone other than me leave their refuge light on 24 hours a day,

Chaeto doesn't "give off" phytoplankton. Growing it under lights for 24-hours a day is what I do, too. Still, having the lights on only over night when the tank's lights are in is also all right.

In addition to the nutrient export benefits you get from growing Chaeto, it also serves as a good place for pods to seek shelter and breed.

so chaeto doesn't give off plankton, ...doesn't bubble algea or other marine plants, see i had thought that one of the points of a refugee was to have a steady stream of photoplankton and if this is so then i need to run my lights only at night since running them 24 hours a day seemed to kill off my other types of plants; the thin blade algea and bubble algea. Also i have 15 pounds of miracle mud on top of my 5" DSB, have you heard any pros or cons, or is it just possibly a rip off

Its phytoplankton not photoplankton. Phyto prefix meaning plant or "make grow".

Plankton is anything in the water without positive locomotion or things carried by the current. The largest plankton would be jellyfish.

Phytoplankton is any plantlike organism floating in the water. So if you scrape the glass and the glass has green algae growing on it you are producing phytoplankton. If it has diatoms on it you are producing zooplankton.

Cheato in the fuge provides a food source as well as a particulate trap for lots of plankton. As it comes off the cheato it can flow into the main tank. It is not from the cheato itself.

Bubble algae is a nusance algae. I don't know what blade algae is.

i didn't do a very good job on my last post, when i was saying that leaving my light on for 24 hours in my refugium was causing my cheato to explode in growth but was killing off my other types of plants; the thin blade algea and bubble algea.....I was calling them the wrong name when in fact they are Bubble Calurpa which i believe is called Mini Prolifera (Caulerpa spp) along with killing off another form of calurpa that has long fan shaped leaves. Also I had believed PHYTOPLANKTON had came from Marine Plants along with other organisms. So my question is, does a refugee actually help with adding a steady stream of Plankton
