well I bought a soda can size ball of cheato, and now its breaking apart and small segments are all over the main display and I dont know why...any suggestions? or reasons? TIA

the light is a daylight 6500k bulb in a heat lamp (thats what I get out of it at least) but the flow is low from the release of the return pump

i'm having the same problem and mine is still dark green but I am unable to grow it too. What the heck is the problem?

roy, yes its dark green, and the bulb I am using is an 18w 5500k bulb, not a 6500k....I have a few hermits and snails in the sump with it

phil, so I need more flow to the cheato then?

I do not like the PC bulbs. I tried them for the past few months because everyone said they "worked great" I switched back to a 250w halogen $10 work light and it will double every two weeks in its size. The Dr is running a 400w MH 6500k over his---I think? Why would you buy a soda can size and why would someone charge you for that size? If you want some healthy I can give some to you and I am sure plenty of other local reefers would be glad to give it away as well. good luck

I have three of those lights nano and I am still not getting amazing growth either I do not have enough nutrients left in the tank or it's not enough light...

Phil Im ganna look in to that light you have and I got the cheato from gateway when I got the rock. lol I only have about a half a soda can left in the sump lol the rest is in the display on the sandbed

I do run a 400w 6500K Iwasaki but it's over a 110 gallon stock tank so by scale, you could do much less. I had some luck running NO T12's (6 of them) over that sump and it wasn't too much/fast growth, but did grow. When I put that halide over it, it's been making a 5 gallon bucket full about every 2-3 weeks.

If you are going pc type bulb route, at least get that 65w LOA 6500K fixture. It's about 20-30 bucks and then a bulb is 15 which you need to change every 6 months. PC bulbs are extremely weak after 6 months. I may get disagreement but even the ones for the displays are dim compared to new ones after 6 months.

Flow is very important and for the sump volume look for 20-30X turnover. Shake and pull at it every day or at least a couple times a week.

I also add iron but very unregular about that. I think that may be more important if you are limited by phosphates or nitrates. I have nitrates but low phosphate. Salifert says 0 but I'm sure a better test would show more. But close enough.

bruetus-yours did not have that yellow light color like the halogen-it was more blue like what I just took down. In a couple of months time it grew 0% with those lights. It kept its color but did not grow. Since I put the halogen back on--WHAMMY. You could even find a 70 or 150 halogen work light and you will get it to double in weeks. If you need more for the 10gl I can spare it.
I have been prunning for my buddies 250 fuge but I can spare enough for your size as well as NaCl clog micro. good luck
