Hi All,
Cant seem to get it to grow. Am useing Melves fuge light.Hair algae likes to grow in the fuge. What could be keeping it from growing? Iron?

jd

It really likes to tumble in a refugium situation. Give it plenty of water circulation and movement.

If you have measurable nitrate and phosphate levels, then consider a smidge of iron to see if it helps. If NO3 and PO4 are zero, iron is less likely to be your limiting factor.

Hmmmm tumble. Its not gonna work as I have a seahorse in the fuge. Maby im gonna have to go with another kind of macro any suggestions?

Hi David,
The main tank is a standard type reef with a semi bare bottom 120 gal (just a little sand for decoration) The fuge is a 20 high with slow water flow also a semi bare bottom( houses one seahorse). I have a couple of pieces of live rock in it. I have a web cam on it if you want to take a look click on my red house. Than click on single. You can pan left ot right the fudge is on thel left side

Thanks

waiting for new reagents to arrive. Are you thinking not enough?

Possibly, mine is growing pretty well, and honestly I cant say for certain why. I do maintain nitrates, feed fairly heavily ( PO4), dose iron, lighting is 85 watts PC and cheato is floating so I would say fairly high light, and flow is rather turbulant at the surface of the tank. The cheato is anchored by some caulerpa so it does tumble a bit twisting the caulerpa into a braid, but its not a consistant tumble.

I think its all relevent to my success with cheato so we need to figure out where you're lacking. Tumbling I dont see as a huge importance mine doesnt tumble alot now, and I just pruned it, by the time it reaches what I've determined to be pruning size ( about basketball size ) it hasnt been tumbling for awhile. Although it is still getting a fair amount of flow. Then there's the big three nutrients which I maintain either by dosing or feeding. Then there's light which I guess I would consider to be high cause the cheato floats even becoming exposed above the waterline.

I let it loose from the rock I had it rubberbaned to closer to the light and see if that makes any differance

thanks
