Guys I am looking for some idea here I have recieved this fish after having it on orderfor a long time, its not rare in the trade but is very rare in South Africa. The fish has been in my Quaranteen tank for 4 days now and for the last 3 has become very active but is not eating, I havetried the following in order frozen brine shrimp with and without garlic drops, blood worm, nori, live fine hair algea, live leafy algea, mussel, shrimp pieces, spirulina flakes, and I have just had a piece of sponge which I cut off from my display in thetank for 3 hours but he hasn't eaten anything. I can see that he is definately roaming and looking for a feed but is not interested in anything I have offered so far. This is the second one that I have and the other was eating almost instantly. Does anyone have anything else to reccomend I try, at the moment he is still knida fat so must have been eating well before being shipped.............any help will be apreciated

Do you have any mature, healthy live rock the fish can pick at?

To pique appetite, maybe try live adult brine shrimp that has been gutloaded with spirulina algae and vitamins or similar.

Yes but only in the display and as I said he is currently in the QT where I am running the salin at 1018 at the moment so live rock is a no no but I have put some rock from the sump in there with some growth on mostly fine algea and as I said I did try some sponge but just removed it after giving him almost 5 hours to decide if he wanted it or not the water volume in the QT is small so I couldnt leave it any longer. I will try some live brine but will have to hatch some

I have put out a request on my local reefkeeping forums for anyone near me to lend me some hatched brine shrimp asap,

Try nori on a rock or clip. Also try frozen food in a mesh clip. These angels are naturally grazers and they have to learn to eat out of the water column. If they can graze on these foods, they'll eventually start going after the broken off pices that are floating and then they are well on their way to eating from the water column.

Ok I have managed to get some help from a good reefer friend he will give me some adult brine that have been pigging out on rots so I will pick it up in the morning and give it a go. You might have heard of my friend he is the breeder of the first Albino Clown species

Thanks Chooch but I have tried nori in a clip aswell as two types of live algea on rocks perfect for grazing but nothing, the fish in QT before this angel was a moorish idol also a grazer and he cleaned algea covered rock off in minutes flat but this guy is not interested at all.

Black worms - Lumbriculus variegatus.

Besides the adult brine you are getting, you can try baby brine shrimp (BBS) or newly hatched brine shrimp (NHBS)... same thing. But just get some cysts and hatch them in sea water over night and then feed them in the morning. Just use some rigid airline tubing to create large bubbles (no airstone), and then in the morning or next day, shine a light in the hatching container at the bottom and siphon them out with some airline tubing (you can use the same tube you used to bubble them, if you just take it off the pump).

Large pickle jars (like the gallon ones) or clear protein tubs work good too (5lb. ones).

he got him feed on omega one first flaks
Have you got clam and scallop
Try cutting nori and let it float in the water (It worked for me and my big angel)

Trev , you can get cockles, scallops and host of other goodies at mariner wharf's fish market in hout bay but if you can find a bait shop that sells some red bait id try that most fish cant resist it... also make sure that the Q water is top notch check its ph and kh regularly as well as ammonia, nitrite if you running it at the lower salinity... Something wrong with parameters would also upset appetite

Hey Shawn thanks for that tip on Mariners Wharf awsome sea food spot,

So here is the great news the angel is eating extreemly well on fresh opened mussel and ocean nutrition red nori, yip I used red bait to get my Moorish Idols grazing so I have tried that and the angel took it, this fish is really eating alot so its time now to vary the diet
