I got some cheatomorpha a few months ago for my 45 gallon and i think i found a seed inside it with a strand of cheatomorpha attached. is this the cheatomorphas reproducion or what? if so can i consider this captive breed cheato? lol

when i got my cheato it also had things that i thought were seeds. but i pulled them out because i'd rather be safe than sorry. mine were clear/light green, about the size of a pea, and did seem attached to the cheato. i wonder what i kept from hatching in my tank?

I have been told that Chaetomorpha does not seed, it fragments. each piece you see is a series of single cells that are attached to one another and they simply separate apart to spread.

This is basically true, it relies mostly on fragmentation to 'reproduce'. I have a feeling that your 'seed' was perhaps another species of macroalgae growing in with the Chaetomorpha.

Conceivably, it could have attached to it, though I have not seen that in person before. Valonia, green bubble algae, is one genus of green algae that would have the appearance you are describing.
