Hey everyone my names Mike, I recently bought a 75g tank to replace my crappy 55g attempted reef tank. I didnt think much of reef central back when I started my 55 but for some reason I tuned into it after getting my 75g and I'm glad I did! Thank you guys so much for giving me so much useful information.

Alright on to my tank. Its a 75g with pretty funky dimensions 40x18x24(LWH), anyways with this tank I wanted to go with the BEST of the BEST with equipment so I would hopefully have a successful reef. Im almost there with the exception of my Deltec AP600. I wanted to make it as automated as possible so I could enjoy it more instead of working on it more, this includes RO/DI, topoff, and automatic feeder. The tank is also in bedroom so it has to be silent, the loudest thing on the tank is the fans that kick in when the T5's turn on.

Equipment

5xT5 lighting SLR reflectors, (4 x icecap660)(1 x sunlight supply)
Eheim 1262 return/phosban reactors/skimmer feed.
3 x Phosban reactors. Matrix carbon/De Nitrate/Phosban
Aquacontroller JR w/ DC8 / temp&ph probes
Deltec AP600
3 x Current USA moonlights (2 x blue,1 x white)
Tunze Osomolator
Optima Pro RO/DI from Purelyh20.com
Eheim Autofeeder
Ecotech Vortech Propellar pump (3000gph)
1 x 150watt ViaAqua heater

Ok on to some pictures....Please forgive the crappy camcorder pictures, all I got!

What size sump are you using? Planning on putting some lr in that compartment right before the pump? Very nice, clean, aestheticly pleasing, and efficient system.

Thanks for the compliments everyone! :D

The sump I would say is about 25-30 gallons 31.5"x13"x16"(LWH)

The compartment beside the return pump, I was going to leave it empty and use it for a filter pad whenever I felt there was too much crap in the water and take it out after a couple days or so. Im interested in why I would put LR in there though...explain.

Keep the questions coming and please point out anything Ive overlooked.

Got the tank up and running I see :) . You were right, our tanks are very similar  .

How do you like the vortech so far? Is it still breaking in(rattling alittle bit)? If so dont worry, it will go away within 3-4 days. Looks like they changed the inner spacer color from orange to black if im looking at the picture correctly. If so, I needa call and ask for a black spacer.

What size T5's are you running? 36" 39w T5's?

So far the Vortech has been awesome, theres a small hum, nothing more. The flow is huge but so gentle, and runs really cool so no heat being added. Your right about the spacer, their now black, they really seem to like to change the colors on these things.

The T5's are 36" 39w. 4 are being overdriven and 1 is on a sunlight supply ballast. Heres some more pictures of them/hood.

Hey........nice set-up. Great job with the plumbing! Make sure and post some more pictures after you add the live rock and stock it!
I especially like the overflow method you chose to use  !!! The flow looks very "calm" and bubble free in the sump. A large tank with a lot of flow CAN be "ultra quiet" !
Awesome job!
Later........Herbie

Thanks Herbie and UCanDoIt

Alright so this coming sunday I'm supposed to be getten around 50lbs of live rock to go along with my 25lbs of base rock. So we'll see how that is and if I need more I'll get more. I will hopefully be getten my deltec next week along with my salifert calcium, alkalinity, magnesium, nitrate, and phosphate test kits. The rest I'll be testing with my hagen master test kit.

While I was at my LFS today looking at suppliments I wondered what I should get, what do I use to raise my calcium and alkalinity for example. What are the suppliments I should get to keep everything in check?

So you doing a mixed reef? SPS only? or?

I dont know actually, this is the reason I bought the best equipment, this way I wont be limited to anything and leaves everything open. While SPS is awesome I dont think I know reef water parameters good enough yet to keep a full SPS reef. So to begin with I think I'll do a mixed reef and when I learn reef tank parameters and then might move to a full SPS tank. On my 55g all I tested for was ammonia, nitrite, temperature, salinity, and ph(usually couldnt even tell). Now I relize why I had such algae problems and whatnot.

So I got my live rock today which is pretty sweet! Aquascaping went better than normal and surprisingly didnt even get a sandstorm. I want to get about 12-20lbs more just to finish it off. I had one hell of time today with vortech and alignment issues, very frustrating, the damn thing just would not shutup! I finnaly got it dialed after leaving it for about 2-3hours and coming back and getting it dialed in about 10min....Wait no now I here it again....:furious: Hopefully it quiets down a little more by tommorow.

I'm going to go get some frozen shrimp tonight to get a good cycle going. Also my deltec will be here within a couple of days so hell yeah! :smokin:

Lookin good!

About your vortech  . I went though the same thing for the first 3-4days. Now I never hear a peep from it minus the slight hum.

Looking good hope that vortech quiets down for you. Love the tank in the room had my old 72 in my room perfect way to relax.
