I had a 29 gallon tank. I drilled it and set up a 20 gallon refugium underneath. Grew lots macros and pods in the fuge. I'm sure the pods got chopped on the way up, but the fish did not seem to mind! :)

i would drill mine but i think i only have room for a 10 gallon under my stand (the opening in the back is small) plus i have never drilled a tank and am scared to break it, and lack the know how to do it anyways. im open to suggestions/help but lack the cash to do it

I drill tanks with a diamond tipped grinding bit and a dremel. The bit costs less than $10. Basically you grab a bulk head, trace out your circle, then use of some sort "ring" (I cut a plastic cup) around the traced circle with a little water (don't want the bit to get hot). Then you just grind away. It takes about 5-10 minutes to do a hole. Add water as it dribbles out.. This only works for tanks with thin glass. And it does not work on tempered glass.

You know you have tempered glass, because when the bit first pokes thru the glass, it will explode! :) Will scare the crap out of you!

I'm 1 for 2 on 29 gallon tanks. Never had an issue on 5, 10, 20, or 30 gallon tanks.

Hope that helps.

honestly i wouldnt do it myself i would prefer to have someone who has the proper tools/experience under their belt to do it without messing it up, as i dont have the money to buy the proper tools and or another aquarium if i screw it up.
