W_T_F kind of spider is that and where is it? At your house? I'd be breaking out the spray poison in short time. Time to wrap up the aquarium with plastic, turn off the air pumps, and bug bomb the whole house. Go Hiroshima on his arse.

It is outside my house by the gas and electricity meter. I should have put a tape measure by it - the leg span was 3 inches.

I can't remember the name of the spider but I had to look it up a few yrs. ago because my daughter had 1 right by her door. They are huge but good for the enviroment. They eat misquitos and smaller spiders. Not poisonous at all just butt ugly.:)

nothing to be alarmed of, those type of spiders are usually found around ponds and lakes. They build their webs on the tall plants growing by the water. They are mostly harmless but they do deliver a nice big bite I've heard.

That's a North American Banana Spider, it is a venomous spider, but its bite won't cause much more than a large red welt. We have quite a few in Southern Florida, the get rather large and photograph quite well.

As soon as I have time later tonight, I will look for what was in my daughter's yard. Then again, astrograzer just might be right:)

yeah banana spiders are all over the place here in florida, they are quite beautiful and can build some really nice size webs. nic pic!

I am pretty sure it is a Argiope. You will have to goggle the name. For some reason, I can't link to the page.

Looks like an everyday common garden spider. Course you dont want to touch them as they will bite if handled, They usually prefer to avoid conflict though. Its not a serious bite like a black widow or recluse. Very good at keeping nuscense insect populations low.

I got a nice pic of one os those orb weaver type spiders that were talked about earlier in the thread. Man that is a respectable spider! I almost ran into one while taking a little stroll through the woods on a recent visit to Fl. Got a nice pic of it though. Ill see if I can post it later.

Why even have an aquarium if you hate nature so much?

..Yep, banana spider. I have a friend who kept one as a pet for the longest time. The spider lived outside on a big plant, and my friend would buy it crickets at the local pet store..Ill see if she has any pictures of it.
