Check out my first tank

Jumped into the hobby after little research and I hope I'm in the right direction. This tank is about three weeks old and can't decide on what coral to get. I would like some advice as far as coral selection and my current setup. Am I missing something? Is my equipment appropriate for what I'm trying to do?
Here's what I got:
Aqueon 15 column tank
AI nano light
50 watt Aqueon pro heater
Koralia evo 550 powerhead
Fluval U1 underwater filter
Cured live rock and sand

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ditch the Fluval filter -- your sand and rock should take care of the biological filtration, assuming you bought enough. You may want to consider a skimmer.

Make sure to read up before you buy any livestock. Plenty of resources here and around the web.

You could use the fluval just with carbon, but you probably don't want to use any other filter media. A skimmer is definitely a good idea.

The reason I bought the fluval is because of the venturi on it. I thought the top water agitation would be good. The powerhead by itself only moves the water on top in a very slow circular motion. Does a skimmer agitate the surface?

I love your piece of rock, very pretty colour, and lots of character to it!!

Subscribed to hop along for the ride! Can't wait to see more. I'm just starting out myself, so I can't really provide much input! :P

Ok, I,m gonna get a skimmer, but what quality skimmer can i get for 100 or less. I hear more good things than bad things about skimmers and I just want my tank to be successfull.

Ok, so i took ragby's advice and ditched the fluval. I went for the aquatics life mini skimmer 115. Being new to the hobby i never really seen a skimmer in action. The first thing that amazed me was the amount bubbles this thing puts in the tank. Not sure i like that many bubbles but i am now able to see the water flow in the tank. Which brings me to my next thought, the fish that i have pretty much stay in the back of the tank where the current is the weakest. I'm wondering if my 550 gph powerhead is to strong for a 15 gallon column. What are your thoughts?

Could be wrong but did you buy the fluval because the tank wasn't drilled for a sump? A skimmer would be a great idea; though, I have no idea which hang on back would suit your tank. Also being you are running an led light...the more surface agitation you have..the more the shimmer which is one of my favorite aesthetic qualities with LED's.
