Over 1/4 inch since I placed him in the tank!!

How long did it take for that 1/4" to grow? I have a gigas and it is not acheiving as much growth as I expected, well , not as much as my other clams.

I placed him in the tank on the 12th of Feb and took the picture 3 days ago. I really started to notice the growth last week when I started to dose my tank with phyto a little more than usual and around that time I installed a Phosban Reactor with Rowaphos. I am not sure what directly attributed to his 1/8 inch growth in a week but I am thinking just a combination of the two. What kind of lights do you have Steven? I will ease up on the phyto to see if that is why he hit a growth spurt... take care!

Steven, I think the people who get the most growth typically have calcium reactors.

I don't have a calcium reactor...

I do have really high calcium ajnd alk though, I will start dosing kalk as soon as I notice an appreciable drop in calcium again and then I will start dosing.

I think part of the reason the growth increases with a calcium reactor have at least partly to do with the stability of calcium, PH, Alk and if you include it in the reactor magnesium

I do does seachem liquid calcium which has both magnesium and strontium.

I don't have a calcium reactor. My squamosa grew 1/2" in the last month and a half while my gigas' growth on a halt. That's why I wonder if there are different needs among different clams.

interesting...but really not sure of an answer to this one though I have heard that clams sometimes hit growth spurts...Not sure how much validity their is in this. It's just something I " heard" .

If all other things are equal...

Do all people grow at the same rate and to the same size? How about all zebras, fishes, trees, etc?

Tridacnids don't either.

BTW - an 1/8" in a week would be about a tie for the fastest growth rate ever reported in the scientific literature. You're lucky.

cool my gigas has grown almost 3/4" since I got him....He's on the bottom with t-5's too... guess I am "lucky"...

nice growth, they grow sooo fast!
here is a pic of mine:
May 04 around 2 - 2.5 inches

Now 6 - 7 . I drip kalk 24/7 can't keep up with alk

Here's my gigas. He's about 8 inches. About 1.5 to 2 inches of growth since December.
