Check Out My New Bongo Shrimp Pair!

Bongo Shrimp

P. ceratophthalma
I've always wanted a pair of these guys and I was finally able to a pair from Liveaquaria. I'll take some better pics later with my DSLR but here are some pretty bad ones from my video camera. I'll also upload a few vids once I get the chance. Just wanted to share this with you guys since there is not too much out there about these guys.

For now they are in my 29g biocube seahorse tank but are in one of those small critter cages like you see at petsmart with the colorful tops that have small vents in them and a handle. The reason being is that they are so small, I wanted to be able to observe them better and make sure my yashia goby does not even think about trying to eat them. Plus I have the black sand in the cage which really makes them pop out. It is also easier to make sure they both eat.

Ah, gotcha. What are you feeding them?

They are like harlys an ONLY eat stars. For now they are getting asterinas and micro brittles. They are already eating!

Thats awesome! You picked them up RIGHT before I did.

Good luck with them! Please post some pictures soon, I would love to see them.

About them being spiny, the spines are actually more hairlike and are not prickly. (not that I was petting them but I can see the hairlike spines flowing and bending a bit in the current.

Here is a video of one of the shrimp feeding. The video was just uploaded so it is still processing and is not in full HD yet but it is still an ok quality.

Here's a few more pics from my video camera. Had to charge the battery for my DSLR which I will be able to use tomorrow.

Here's a few more pics, these are from my DSLR but I still don't have a macro lens and being that the shrimp are so so small it is really tough to get a close up, and sharp shot. So this is the best I can do for now. Will add more from the DSLR soon.

Ya those are some really sweet looking shrimp!!

in the last pic is he eating that little star on the glass?

i have like 5873459076356987356 of those little stars all over my glass... i just pick them off and throw them away when i can reach them.

Are you going to keep them in the critter keeper permanently? I would think that the seahorses would go after them, otherwise (unless they are bigger than I am thinking.)

Thanks everyone, the shrimp in the last pic was actually eating the brittle star leg on the ground by his legs. They are not small enough for the seahorses to eat but I am keeping them in the cage so it is easier to observe them. So at least for now, they will be kept in the cage.
