Check out my new Nano!

I thought I'd post some pictures of my new nano now that everything is doing well. It was set up in early March this year. A big thanks to Janey (Fishy1) for all of your help getting this tank started.

The tank is a 20 gallon hexagon that I have in my office at work. It's 24" deep and lit with a 150w HQI 14,000K metal halide. The light is a Coralife hang-on fixture. My filtration isn't very complex with only a Fluval 304 canister filter. I would love to do a sump and skimmer, but it isn't possible with the space I have.

My coral include:
Bubble coral, Frogspawn, Red Monti Cap frag, Yellow Polyps, Toadstool Leather, Green Tree, Cloves, Green Ricordia, Various other polyps, Zoanthid and Mushrooms.

Several photos can be found here:

BAH! Around these parts, you have to have at least a 60 gallon cube and be a Deltec Fanboy to even be CONSIDERED for the nano-club.
;) @ Allen
Seriously though, nice tank. Hexs kind of freak me out with the fly-eye view of the inside of the tank but they do make things look alot larger than they actually are.

Looks good!!! I'll post the FTS for ya

Thanks for the compliments! I was afraid to post all of the images here since I thought it might bog everyone down.

I actually made a couple cool discoveries today. The middle rock with all the green zoas has a little sea squirt on the end of it. In closer study, I also found two bright orange centered zoas with green edges on the same rock. They are toward the back, so I had never noticed them. I might frag them off and move them somewhere I can see them better.

Here's a really bad picture of it:

Very nice...I'm just getting into the scene and have been given a 30 gallon hex...How are your fish taking to the tank?

I ask because it seems that everything I can find on hex tanks says not to use them...

Don't listen to people when they say your fish won't be happy in a hex. People are so quick to give you their indisputable opinions. My fish swim up and down, all over the tank. They are all territorial, so they don't venture that far even in the wild. Unless you're going to throw something like a Tang into your hex, you'll be fine. Stick with Nano friendly fish. I have a clownfish, Royal Gramma and Yellow Tail Damsel.

Their are a few negatives with a hex:
They are tall and narrow. Mine is 24" tall and only 18" wide from corner to corner. That makes it difficult to reach stuff at the bottom of the tank. I make good use of extended "grabber" tools and my long arms (I'm 6'5"). The small width also limits what you can do from a filtration standpoint.

All that being said, I love mine. It's shape allowed me to stack rock the entire height of the tank. Plenty of room for coral. Also with the 24" depth I'm able to use the metal halide fixture.

Thanks for the info & the advice. Greatly appreciated. the hex tank fits my space needs best right now, so I'm going to move forward with it.

Thanks so much for the encouragement.
