i have 60lbs live sand, rock from my old tank which is no longer live been out the tank for about a month about 60lbs, and i got about 10lbs live rock from the lfs

Do you have any critters in the tank yet? If you are going to raise SPS, I'd recommend bumping the pH to 1.025 or 1.026.

yea raise that SG to 1.024 -1.026 also what size tank, do you only have the sand in there? Bacteria that eat ammonia and nitrite live on solid surfaces, so you have to have live rock in the tank for them to live on. also do water changes to remove nitrate left behind.

wow have always skipped over the SG part of the params and just assumed what was on the hydrometer blue zone was good. Glad I read this

yea natural sea water is around 1.027

is your tank cycling still? still have nitrite and ammonia.

Ammonia, trite, then trate. Nitrates are the last step in the cycle so once your ammonia and nitrite zero out, look for nitrates to start coming down, then do a large, 20% or so water change.

no critters yet. Yes im going to bring the sg up to 1.025

yes its only been running about 6 days now. not planning on adding anything for a while, just wanted to see how the params were looking to everyone. Thanks
