When I aggravate the polyps the sunset montepora is a blue/purple underneath and the polyps range from mostly green with some orange in the base to a yellow

bought it as a sunset and it's always been orange and green but lately I've noticed the slight yellow in some polyps and this weekend when I was wotking on the thank and saw the polyps pull in I picked up on the base color change. The blue/purple is only under the polyps the non polyp area exposed to light is 100% orange

what is your lighting?
that video is under actinic LED's with the white ballance adjusted.

The monte was always orange and green but about a month ago I increased Mg to battle bryopsis and cut back the full light duration from 9 hours to 5 hours. I suspect both changes have something to do with the morph

overall lights:

LED's
T12 super actinic
T5 Actinic white
T5 454
moonlight strip
T5 454
T5 Actinic white
T12 super actinic
LED's

here is the same coral before the change - I'll see if I can get another picture under the same lights when they are back on but I noticed the morph earlier when the all the lights were on

Ive seen the purple show up in mine before as well, not quite to that extent though.

what I really want to know is what are you using to shoot that video?? That is super sweet

I probably cant afford it, but just curious.

sweet color change! someone dropped the bomb at :22 though... lol

I have a colony of zoanithids that were expellng some poo at the same time I was filming the monte - I suspect that's what was floating by, but it could also be a stray piece of bryopsis as I was picking the stuff and with the water change some pieces may have been stired up

Looks nice..but....

that's some serious color manipulation, isn't it?

I have no intentions to manipulate, nor can I past setting the white ballance on the camera - it's just as I described, actinics with the white balance set

if I don't set the white balance (be it normal lighting of actinics) everything is blue. I will add when under actinics only (as this is), blues come out purple but in this case the base color under the polyps was already a purple blue so the color is pretty close to how I saw it last night.

But to keep everyone on the up and up I'll try to post another video later today with full lights :)

I was thinking the same thing. Video looks great.

the camera is a Sony HDR-XR150 (Full HD, good optics and hard drive storage)
and thanks

as promised here it is under the full lighting

there is a lot of junk floating around as I was in the middle of a water change and I like to stir up the detritus

is that a parrot in the back ground? i have an orange winged amazon that sounds similar

that would be Sonny, our cockatiel :), our family use to have an orange winged amazon - he was a great bird, loved to be with people and a ton of personality
I wish I had an amazon or macaw

They are awsome birds. Ours is named bernie and he like certain people but he sure does have a personality. He has been around since before I was born.
