The thing that worries me right away is that I have never seen a 175w DE bulb.

I was thinking the same thing

it wont be the first time I have wasted money in this hobby,
nor the last I am afraid. The only thing that worries me is leaks. I will post a result on them later.:eek1:

It will probably still work, but I get the feeling they will be 150w bulbs, and they are pretending they are being over driven or something, or maybe they are assuming the HQI DE 150w bulbs are equal to 175w SE bulbs.

Kind of like the knock off speaker companies (and some of the big brands too) that quote 100 watts RMS and 10 gagillion watts peak. :p

There are plenty of threads regarding the quality of these fixtures. Draw your own conclusions but definately research before you buy.

From what I have read, your pretty limited with your MH bulb choices if you wanted to try a different spectrum. I have never seen a 175W DE replacement bulbs at any of the major mailorder places.

due to the fact that the search feature is not available most of the time for non-premium members, could anyone post some links to these threads? That is a extremely attractive price and I would like to know more about these fixtures.

Thanks for the reply, but unfortunately since the link is going right to your search it still will not come up for me. It will give me the same message as if I was to do a search myself. They really need to fix the search function.

Anyway, you say people had problems with the fixture actually catching fire!?! That's crazy. I think I may have to look for something else.

Seriously I learned my lesson buying from them, but I got thier T5s. They are sub par in quality and you will not be happy with them in the end game. Just keep looking and find a good quality projuct for a bit more. You will be glad you did.

Yes Gwoodburn, one member did actually have photos of inside the ballast that looked as it melted. I am sorry you were not able to get to the threads. There were many good threads on it. After the search I did for you. I saw more than what I had seen the first time. I am still going to try them but will keep an eye on them for sure.

Using google to search RC seems to bypass the search engine issues.

i have odysea moon lights and the wire coming out of the power supply started to fall apart and the insulation came off. odysea products are a hazard .

Initially I thought my Geischman lighting is over price, but now that I saw chckrbrd wrasse link, I really think I got a bargan. No tank is worth a house or a life.:D

another bad purchase due to the search function..... o well does the search function work at least sometimes with the premium membership. I have been trying to do a search for about a week now and i have yet to get it to work. Kevin

No Flyin2jz, I can not blame the search results with my purchase. When I did the search I only went for the recent threads. My search was a limited search so I received limited info. But there was some doubt from the threads I saw. I read a thread where a member who did a search came out with the 70 for / 30 against. Now the one with the fire was one I saw later after I made my purchase and after I expanded my search. It gives me concern, but also as in all products there are lemons and there are other factors with anything electrical. Were they properly ventilated? Were they being dusted? Right now I have 48" Coralife Power Compact Lights - 260 watts. If I did a thread on them. It would be a bad thread as I feel they are junk. They have a short life span, they seem easily contaminated when over saltwater. I have bought 3 of them now this last set was my longest lasting only because I keep glass between them and my tank. I kept buying them because others I know have great success with them. Sorry so long of a thread. I just thought I would explain it properly. Search features work fine for me.
