I am the one that they caught on fire. The lights where on top of the tank and the ballast box was beside the tank (there are pictures of it). The unit was only about 6 months old so there was no dust. The ballast box is what caught on fire.
I think a big problem is alot of the pieces are not UL listed. I did contact the vendor and after a week he responded. I was told to get these fix I would have to send them to China at my expense.
I understand that lighting is exspensive and some people did have luck with these. The major problems seem to lay in the capacitors popping and causing the fire. If you look through the threads there are more than a couple people who have had capacitor pop.
I am just giving my experiences with them and trying to let people know the large potential danger of these units. I do not want these lights to kill someone before something is done about them.
At the minimum, I would replace the capacitors and ballast with something else like an ARO ballast just for saftey.
Open up the unit to make sure there are no lose screws or bolts and the wiring is snug. There are many reports of people getting these with lose screw and nuts in the boxes.
