When I saw this guy hanging out of a christmas tree rock at the LFS I had to buy it. The crab is living in a hole like the worms live in. This is the best shot I could get even at ISO 1000.

Thanks for the replies all. So I seem to have hit the magnification limit on my 100mm Macro. If I want more magnification I would need a > 100mm Macro? Is that the way it works?

yes, or you could get extension tubes which will allow you to move closer to the subject (thus making it bigger in the frame). With the tubes you lose DOF too. Also it assumes that you can get closer (subject really close).

Kenko makes some cheap extension tubes for the Canon (don't even bother paying the Canon price for a hollow tube). They would allow you to go up to 2x.

Another option is the MP-E 65 mm lens which goes up to 5x but you need to be able to move your corals up to the glass etc... (at the most you will get 3 inches of range on it).

Yeah, I have the extension tubes but they aren't doing me much good with the coral shots because I can't get physically closer. I'm at the glass. I was reading about teleconverters that will increase the focal length. That would be what I'm looking for right? Make my 100mm Macro into a 180, 200mm... Anybody ever try one? Do they work or are they a gimmick?

Teleconverters work, but you lose a stop with the 1.4x and two with the 2.0x. You'll lose quite a bit of sharpness with the 2x TC so I would advise against it unless the reach is truly more important. That said, B&H has a compatibility chart for the Canon TCs and the 100mm macro isn't listed. He hangs out of his hole all day. When something startles him he shrinks into it and covers it with his claw. There is some algae around the edge so I'm not sure if it farms that for food or grabs stuff from the water column. What a life huh?
