Hey listen guy, I have been laid off for a while myself. I need gas. Could one of you guys bring me some gas for my car? Not my everday driver, I have a sports car that I would like to drive around on this nice day. I really need gas.
Dont these people realize its a luxury having a reef tank? And no, I dont have a sports car.

WOW, I really don't know what to say. If they were in a club somewhere they might know someone that might be able to help them, or it sounds like they already burned their bridges or they might not know any one else with a salt water tank. Who knows, hey, I have some cans they can recycle I'll donate to them. You can get them for free on the side of the road. How bad do you really need it and what are you willing to do for your fish? As for little miss anxious, buy her a book and let her educate herself while dad goes and finds a second job to support her. Get used to it dad, your in it for the long haul and I am sure that she will have many future interests that you will have to fund as well, this is only the beginning. GOOD LUCK you are going to need it.

Schadenfreude (pleasure felt at someone else's misfortune/shortcomings) is all over this board. Geez, they just want to borrow some salt, I'll forgive them; better than letting their fish and corals suffer or die. Hasn't anyone else borrowed something before when they've been in a pinch? Times are tough for many people out there, and Craigslist is a normal venue for this sort of request.

Are you kidding me!? First of all, if I ever had to get on the internet and beg people for salt I would really have to reevalute where my life is at. If they don't have $15.99 for a bag of instant ocean salt then how are they going to have the money to pay for the electricity to run the tank or the water to make RO? And why do they need salt so badly? They say they need enough for a 75 well what do they need to do, a water change, moving the tank? My guess is they are setting up a new tank and ran out of money and are looking for something for free.
I'm all for helping people out. If you need some RO water because your unit isn't working, stop on by. If you need to borrow some cal/alk because you ran out and forget to get more, stop on by. I'm not going to give someone free salt and have them pay me back two months later. Things come up yes, but in this case I think it's time to sell the tank for the extra money and then when things are back to normal and you have the money to support a reef tank, then give it another go.
