I didnt know this was happening in SW also. How's a newbie supposed to know better ( to not buy )? I am getting into SW becaused of the bright vibrant colors, now I have to be suspect of it?

Don't worry, after a while, as you get to know your corals, you will know which come in what colors. Untiul then, just be sure to do a little research to avoid these sorts of specimens. Better yet, just ask here :D

I wonder if it's consistent with eBay's selling rules... Just thinking out loud. Another newbie will be learning an expensive (and possibly deadly to the rest of the tank) coral ID lesson...

The orange is natural. It's a non-photosynthetic coral that needs to be fed. Couple of ways to see if it's dyed; 1) Look at the base to see if there are any parts that are different colors, usually tan, beige, white. 2) See if the coral is attached to any rock. They'll sometimes remove the rocks so they can dye the entire coral without coloring any rock giving it away. Although there is a true pink tree coral and pink carnation coral, the fact this coral has a white base is what also convinces me that it's dyed.

I just emailed the seller and said it was too bad he probably killed this thing, and "hobbyists" like him angered me.
I'm sure I'll get no response, but I sent it anyways.

No need to be nasty, that is only going to make it worse. Just point out that it's wrong and be adult about it. :)

hehe.. 'albino' corals.. i like that.. but yeah, there is alot of shady sales on ebay lately (or maybe i've just been noticing them more) so its important to do your research before you buy any coral..

I would imagine that if it's dyed then eBay's policy would require that he disclose that, especially if the implications of such are as you guys have mentioned.

Bluethumbcorals is someone I buy from. I even bought from this one guy who posted a Yuma pic when he was selling Atlantic Rics, after that, I learned to look for WYSIWYG for corals...sheesh.

There are more and more corals dyed like the one on the picture make their way in to this country. Here are some example, bright neon yellow Pagoda coral( Turbinaria), red Colt Coral, hot pink Sinularia. And, yes it a shame , Lots of Horse out there ( Scum of the Earth):furious: :uzi: :uzi: :uzi:
