Not to be all blase on you but... why should we have read that? Some new reefkeeper in CA found a Petco that is ****ty and kills saltwater animals, and wouldn't give away dying animals or upgrade their systems based on the walk in advice of someone they've never seen before. Not all that shocking.

We still have stores in our area that carry animals that have no place in our hobby, have no chance of survival, die terribly in the store tanks. And we have a strong club relationship with most of these stores.

I tend to think a nationwide ban on Petco becuase they killed a couple (most likely aquacultured) clams is a bit much. Make your effort to educate the people in the store, then seek life elsewhere. I buy my dog food at Petco, and I eat plenty of clams at the sushi bar. Surprisingly, the oceans are still full of life.

i see your point but i will never shop there i think that it was wrong letting a clam die and eating it are 2 different things

Let me try a different direction... if that post makes you want to carry signs and picket, you are going to be in for a rough time in this hobby.

And more specifically, once you have some experience with these chains, you come to realize that as far as saltwater animals are concerned, each location stands alone, wholly based on the skill and determination of the people in charge of it. For a good example, Pet Supplies Plus in Monroeville was run (dont know if it still is) by a guy and a couple other folks that undertood the hobby. They got the right animals in, and kept them healthy. 10 minles down the road would make you cry, same chain.

no no i am not saying that at all
and you are right petcos do differ i have one in greensburg and they are not that bad but a couple of other ones i take one look at the fish and would never buy
i am not saying don't buy dog food or anything
basically i was saying i couldn't belive that some one would do that and it made me mad and i wish they wouldn't sell any sw fish or inverts but that is there choice and i will not by living things from them thats all
and as far as Pet Supplies Plus the are great fro dry goods and they are very helpful with questions but there sw tanks scare me but i did get a nice piece of lr for 2 bucks a pound it had alot of bubble algae but i took care of it and now is one of the best looking rocks in the tank

I am familar with employees at both petco and pet supplies and have done the road trips to hit all the pet supplies in a day. There is a difference in all pet store in general all have pros and cons to your eye.. the amount of skill that the employees have or the owners have is a strong determining fator as far has the set ups and ordering and knowledge they pass on.... Ken was at monroville pet supples and it was an awesome place to shop.. I was just there on sat. the 13th and it was a dump.. Ken is gone to greensburg he must have taken his tricks and talent with him since the tanks were empty and looked poorly...I have known Ian from pet supplies for years ever since i started he was from elmers years ago when they were in the north hills..He is a wealth of knowledge I haven't seen him in years since he moved to a different store.. I miss tlking to him..my petco connections are more bird and small animal but i am still leary of buying anything from them...
