Recently our predator tank at the museum was hit pretty hard with some sort of infection that I believe was bacterial in nature. I hit the tank hard with broad spectrum antibiotics but it was no use and after a month+ long battle we've lost all of the fish in the tank except for our eels. The last non-eel died about two weeks ago.
The only animals that seem to have been unaffected were our eels. Although seeming to lose their appetite for a week or so after antibiotic treatment, they have since more than recovered their appetite and are eating and behaving like normal. Though I would recommend quarantine to anyone who obtains them from us just to play it safe I don't think they were ever or are currently infected since the physical symptoms of this infection were quickly apparent to even a casual observer. :sad2:
So I will be looking to relocate these eels in the near future. The silver lining of this situation is that I have been itching for an opportunity to change our tank setup and this gives me an obvious opportunity to give our guests a totally new aquatic exhibit, but I will need to find a home for the eels first.
Both eels are in the 18-24 inch range and aside from the recent issues with the tank have been healthy since I began working here two years ago. They both accept silversides, krill, cocktail shrimp and the occational other type of raw seafood readily.
If interested shoot me a PM and we can discuss a sale. Since we need to put a price I will start the price for the Snowflake at $100 and the White-Eyed at $250. If you think this is too expensive (and it very well might be) please send me a PM. The white-eyed eel is pretty cool and based on what I've seen in this hobby it is rarely available.
Thanks,
Tad
