great fish, hope your tank is nice and established :)

My tank should be fine plus it has a 100 gal sump/fuge with over 100lbs LR.

I have never seen one that was as red as this one.

Nice and chubby. Congratulations!

I was reading how some hobbyists place there mandarin's in breeder nets in the tank and feed different live foods to adapt the feeding habits. Are you gonna do that or just go with the natural pod route?

Very nice! The red variant was almost mythical not long ago but I have seen a few appearing lately in the LFS's here.

My LFS got a couple red mandrins in about a week ago and they were such a big hit he was able to get 10 more. One of which I had to have.

Very pretty mandarin and he will do awesome in your tank!

I'm a little curious why everyone keeps calling it fat. I have seen emaciated ones look normal until you look at their abdomen on the bottom side to see their stomach caved in.

Just trying to be helpful- when you're looking for a mandarin you can't look where you would on an American like me (all over), you gotta look right at the belly!

My understanding is you want to look at over-all body weight when judging the health of a finicky fish. The belly can come and go a bit over the course of the day. That is a beautiful fish. I really want one someday. Is it eating prepared foods? I seem some in the tank with it. Good luck!

No. I have not tried to get it to eat prepared food. The food you see in the pic is under the acclimation tank. I am hoping with a 240g tank with lots of rock and the 100g sump with 100# of LR will be enough to keep him happy with pods. I am crossing my fingers.
