Cheeks new cube !!

I think I had one too many beers couldn't cut a straight line on the reflector for the PC's. I took the coralife hood I had in my other tank and attached it to the spider reflector from my MH.

Nice, looks exactly like my cube, except I have 2 MHs as lighting. However, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that sump design going to cause you to have to refill your sump quite often. From what I see, your "level limiting" area is where your return pump is....and since that area is so small evaporation will take that below the pump pretty quick. Of course this is all solved if you have the water level greatly higher than the divider.

Cheeks,

Here is my new cube under construction.. Cant wait until you start aquascaping so I can get some Ideas...;) Project Reef said he kill me if my aquascaping looked like my last one

Nice, but you dont really need ball valve on the overflow.
Only enough water that is being pumped out will be drained.

Yes that would be true if the pump would handle more than the drain but since I have a 11/2" drain then I can control the level in the sump thru the drain via a ball valve. I hope this makes sense.

Do you have any pics. I'm going with a wide open look I just don't like the rock wall stacked to the top.:)

True. But in my test run I was getting alot of sucking noise from the overflow so when I added the valve and closed it about a third of the way the noise was gone.

This is a risky proposition long term (your tank may eventually overflow when calcium deposits and other junk clog your partially closed bv). You need to put your ballvalve on the pump output and throttle down the flow until the slurping disappears.

I'm not sure I understand. The drain can handle alot more flow than the pump can put out that's why I have to have the handle partially closed. If I have the BV fully open I get a real loud sucking sound out of the overflow.

two things to consider for the sucking sound- First, you need to make sure the return opening from the overflow in your sump is 1/2 in and 1/2 out of the water using an elbow. Second, try closing part of the hole you drilled in the standpipe to different sizes to dial in the correct size. I had the same problem on both my tanks when I set them up and doing those 2 things resolved the problem!

It is.

I tried different sizes on the holes on the cap of the standpipe per instructions from the dursopipe website. What happens is if I leave the BV fully open then the water level drops in the overflow box and not only do you get the loud sucking sound but you get Niagara Falls and since the tank is going to be close to the bedroom I don't have a choice.

I like the scaping gooberz ! How much rock do you have ? When your corals start to grow out that tank is going to look incredible especially the unknown Acro and the orange cap.

Anyone for a milkshake ? I should've rinsed the southdown because the filtration will eventually remove the fine particulate sand anyway.

It took about 10 hours for it to clear.

You've got my tank - 30" X 30" X 24".

And unfortunately you've done the same thing I did for the canopy. The front door is awesome, however, with a 30" wide tank is isn't possible to reach the back, bottom of the tank from the front. The last 6" are just too far. The canopy needs to have doors on three sides to be able to work in the back part of the tank.

I really like the footprint of the tank (30" X 30"). But the next time around it will only be 20" high (sps coral tank -better light intensities throughout the tank) on a 32-34" high stand and pendant

lighting.

Chin_monster you're absolutely right it's going to be very difficult and I was thinking of reducing the height before I ordered it but I wanted to have a larger volume of water so I decided to keep the dimensions. Hopefully the cleanup crew will do a good job.

BTW your cabinetry and corals look awesome.

Thats why you needed to make your canopy like mine ;). At the back of each side is a door (you can see the light coming out...need to fix that! :)

Awesome cubes guys.

Chin Monster, how many streams are in there? I counted 6... Which streams do you have?

Again, very nice.

There were a pair each of 6080's, 6060's and 6000's w/ multicontroller at the time of the pic. Currently there are the 6060's and 6000's on the tank.

With the pair of big stream not on the tank I can have fish that are able to venture out of rockwork. With the big ones running too, the fish just weren't happy at all, the corals were happy though. With all 6 going there was well in excess of 10,000 gal/ hr flow rate without even considering the return pump.

Boy I didn't know cubes were so popular we should start a club:D :D :D

Well I moved all the livestock from my old tank but couldn't aquascape because I would just get a sandstorm so I just let everything settle.

Well the frog spawn had opened quickly, so all seems to be going well for you. I'm confused, Is your tank blocking your hallway or is it in a closet? Signed

Confused.

It's at the end of the hallway against the back wall. There's a master bedroom on the right and my daughters room on the left.
