Does this stuff REALLY do a better job at "polishing" the water than activated carbon ?

Just wanna know BEFORE I go out and needlessly spend money.

Thank you,

Jason

I bought some a while ago and wasn't impressed by it. It was really big for the back of my NC12, but it still fit. I never really saw anything special about it. I took it out a couple weeks ago.

i think that chemi pure is a lot better than regular carbon. i always see a difference in my water clearity the day after i change mine.

I prefer boyd's chemi pure as well over regular carbon, however, for the money and the lack of need to run it lately I just run el cheapo black diamond but I belive chemipure regular is better.

ELITE has GFO in it....

GFO-granular ferric/ferrous oxide/hydroxide

GFO-phosphate remover

If you already run a GFO then the "elite version" is not needed.

Thanks for the clarification on the product as I too could not find the difference between the 2 products. I guess I'll just add a bit of my own GFO to the regular ChemiPure bag for my Nano!

i've always used Chemi Pure in my tanks. Nothing I've tried seems to make the water as crystal clear blue as it does. I just put some of the Elite in my tanks this weekend for the first time. The only difference I've noticed so far is that the water was brown instead of blackish blue when I did the pre-rinse. I certainly don't mind having some additional Phosphate removal going on....

According to some very knowledgeable people in the chem forum, Chemi Pure is nothing but a so-so grade carbon with some useless resins added.

The aboslute best carbon I've ever used is the Rox 0.8 from Norit and is by far the best available carbon for use in our hobby IMO. Seachem Purigen is also excellent for polishing water to very high clarity IMO.

I love chemi Pure i just got some elite about 3 weeks ago and fairly impressed my phosphate dropped some so it's a nice product.

Your water is blue?:eek2:

Chemi-Pure is great. I don't use the "Elite" since I have GFO in my Phosban and the "Elite" is more expensive than the original "Chemi Pure"

Great for clear water :)

Can actually say that it helped my phosphates and my nitrates. I have mine laying flat on a grate where the water flows on top of it. I never had great luck with it when it was laying on the bottom or balled up.
