I have read on here that a lot of people run these products. I run chemi-pure and it does great for me. I have also read a lot of good things about Purigen. Which do you prefer and why?

I run GFO too. I like to the run the chemi-pure because it is good up to six months. I change mine every 4 months. It seems to help keep my ph at 8.2 all the time and the water clear.

I'm not trying to find out what is better. Both seem to have great reviews and I have seen a lot of tanks that look great using neither. I am just wanting to see who uses what and why.

GFO and Carbon only. I have never been a fan of the ionic resin type filter media. The cheaper solution is to do regular water changes, carbon for removing the stuff the skimmer can't remove, and most importantly, a phosphate remover. Under no circumstances do I let phosphates get out of control anymore. The recovery time is too long and costly.

I do a 10 gal water change on my tank every week and run GFO. I run the chemi-pure as carbon. Am I wasting my money?

not needed but shows results.... if you cant keep water stability then use it. if tank is happy no matter what dont use it!

I am just wanting to see who uses what and why.

I use neither (GAC only), but they may be a way to export a slightly different subset of the organics in a tank than GAC does. If I were to use them, I'd use Purigen and GAC. :)

i have used purigen and like it...makes my water crystal clear...easy to recharge too....sadly the media bag developed a hole and the purigen made it to the display and is growing into carpets of hair algae...so i just run gac now...
