I wanted to post a separate thread about different chemical media that people use in their reef tanks. I posted in another thread about what carbon do you use and I didn’t want to hijack it by asking about other media options and what people used etc.
I am mainly using Chemi Pure right now but have thought about adding in a pouch of Purigen also. I run the Chemi Pure in the sump and would also do the same with the Purigen. I mainly want experiences and opinions on these two but I am open to any suggestion. When I ran carbon I used Marinelands Black Diamond, Seachem Matrix, and Sera carbons.
Some things I wanted to know though are how often do you change the Chemi Pure and Purigen? Both directions say you can use them for up to 6 months but I don’t really think it’s going to last that long. I know the Chemi Pure has carbon in it but is it a different type of carbon that won’t leech things back into the water? When I ran straight up carbon I would run for 2-3 days in a magnum filter then remove it. I would do this every 2-3 weeks depending on what the water looked like.
So far I have had the Chemi Pure pouches in the sump for a week and everything is looking crystal clear. Corals Look good and don’t seem to be unhappy from what I can see. I mainly keep leathers, zoes, mushrooms, a few monti caps. I just want to make sure that by leaving it in the sump I am not going to have harmful things leeched back into the tank.
Also looking into using the Chemi Pure Elite since it adds in the phosphate remover so may depending on the responses here switch up to using it.
Thanks for looking and any information you can share.
