I recently had a bleaching event from an overdose of GFO. After that I made a few changes since 70% of my SPS was gone anyway. I cut back my feeding to lesss than half. And I got Polyp Labs Reef Resh system. It is supposed to create a low nutrient environment. It also adds back amino acids for the SPS. It is very similar to doseing vodka. Well after I strated doing this I am pretty sure it worked because my large Sarcophyton closed up for about a week. Then it shed and it looks fine. But I lost another Pocilopora that was a little to close, then a monti got a white spot and I moved it away from the Sarcophyton and its fine now. So I believe the leather coral is adjusting to new paramiters and sending out chemicals.(Maybe its trying to eliminate the competion for the nutrients, since there are less) It just a theory I have it could be way off. What ever is going on I am 99% sure its the leather releasing something into the water.
Now my question is what to do about it. I am already running carbon( I run about 80ml in a phosban reactor, that I change every 3-4 weeks.) Should I run more than that? Its a 65g mixed reef tank with a 10g fuge with cheato, and caulerpa. The fuge is on a reverse daylight schedule and has a 3-4 SB. I would rather not get rid of the Sarcophyton as I have come to like it. But if I have to I will. Any suggestion would be a great help. Thank you.
I will get a recent pic in a little bit.
