Which brands do you prefer? Seachem, Kent, or other and why? i have always been a kent marine guy. But i'm always up for better quality if there is. Please let me know, thanks everybody.

I'm a big fan of ESV for Calcium, Alkalinity and Magnesium supplements. Before switching to Randy's DIY two-part+Mag, that's what I used with very good results. I've also used Kent's Tech M, and although it was for a briefer period, it seemed to work just fine as well.

My local LFS turned me on to NatuReef Alkalinity Plus and Hardiness Plus which was developed by a local chemist from the Miami area. They supposedly have all the trace elements. He stated that was all he ever used on his 200 gal and it is doing awsome. So I thought why not. So I am trying it as well. I will keep ypu posted. So far my tank seems to be doing ok. Ck it out you may find that you like it as well. Beats buying expensive supplements. This comes from a person who has a drawer full of supplements.

Just head on over to the chemistry section of this forum.. you'll find everything you want to know, how to make it cheaply, and you'll never question what's in the stuff you put in your tank. :D

Randy, Bertoni, Boomer.. all sorts of helpful people there!

Are you buying or making your water? If you're buying water from your LSF you should only need to test/add Calc and Alk.

No, i make my own water. I have a new RO/DI unit that i use to make water with, and it is also plumbed dirrectly to my sump with a float for top off. I use the kent marine pro buffer and i use red sea coral salt. when i make my water i have a 20 gallon storage container with a small powerhead with an air tube to stir it and oxygenate the water. For when i do the rare water change. It's not that i have any issues with the products that i use, I was just wondering what others used and what type of comments or results they get out of there stuff.

also all my past fish tanks have been mostly fish with some soft corals and anemones. but now i have this new 150 and want to try more exotic corals and stuff like that. so any recomendations on stuff like that would be great. Also, I just ordered a Korallin 1502 Calcium Reactor. I will be setting that up and may need some advise in getting it dialed in as it will be my first time having a reactor setup.

With the calcium reactor, the only thing you should really need to add is Magnesium. I'd stop adding the buffer. It raises PH by raising the alkalinity, and you shouldn't raise your alkalinity without raising your calcium in proportion. Corals take up calcium carbonate, and alkalinity is only the carbonate portion of that compound.

Gotcha. Yeah I have also been dosing my tank with Kent Liquid Calcium. Also from time to time, I use that Purple Up. The 150 gal. that I have is new so I'm still getting the equiptment that I need at the moment. What should my magnesium, alkalinity, and calcium levels be in the tank for keeping corals properly?

Calcium I keep between 400-450 ppm, Alkalinity 2.5-3.5 meq/L, and magnesium I believe should be 1300-1500 ppm. You may want to go to the chemistry forum to check on those numbers. I've been out of the country for the past 5 months, so I may be remembering wrong.

Cool! Thank you for the advice.

I use Warner Marine for phosphar and carbon, bulk reef supply/two part.com for ..two part :)

There was a post and discussion on quality carbon and warner marine was up there for clarity/price on the dot graph they did.
