ChemiClean how long will this foaming last?

Just curious, I dosed chemiclean to get rid of some cyano bateria this saturday around noon. took skimmer offline so it wouldn't completely overrun. As per the instructions 48 hours later (wednesday when i got home from work around 5pm.) I did about a 20% water change (maybe closer to 17%) and started running my activated carbon reactor again.

However my water still seems to be extra foamy and bubbly and I am unable to run my skimmer as it will quickly foam over even with the output fully open.

Do i need to do additional WC's or will the carbon eventually pull all of this stuff out? Running a decent amount of fairly new carbon.

Thanks for any help.

mine never stopped foaming. Eventually, i put the drain line of the skimmer cup into a bucket and let it drain all that crap out. It stopped foaming over after about 30-60 min. If you try this, you may want to shut off you ATO so you don't pump in a bunch of freshwater. I think I may have removed about a gallon or so.

no, no, no!!!!!!!!! don't take the skimmer offline. Your tank can crash. THat's what's exporting the dieoff!

Shutting off the ato may be a good idea.

Watch your salinity. This is going to spit a lot.

Your carbon will diminish the effect of the antibiotic [Chemiclean], I suspect.

I had to raise my skimmer up to it was almost completely out of the water. that went on for a few days.
Once you see the foaming decrease then you can lower the skimmer.
I use "egg crate to make risers for the skimmer to sit on.
But remember that the cyano will come back unless you deal with the real problem!

I pretty much sucked all the cyano out before i used it and from what ive read is that chemiclean is an oxidizer not an antibiotic. I have my skimmer up on egg crate already and it is very powerful (aquamax co-3) it just pours water out when i turn it out now. like the drain line doesnt even keep up with the cup. Even with the output full open
Guess ill just try another water change.

Well my skimmer was almost completely out of the water. (Just the intake was still in the water.)
I even removed the adjustment tube that controls flow for skimate. That went on for a few days. Then I was able to slowly lower the skimmer back into the sump.

Last time I used it I ended up doing a 100% water change after skimmer kept overflowing for a week. I tried running the cup drain to a bucket but it was draining too much water. Cyano was wiped out in the end, though.

My first advice would be to not run chemo lean at all. I was just like everybody else singing its praises and had used it atleast 2 times with great results. Then they're was the crash. I slightly added too much chemi clean to my tank. And when I say slightly I'm talking grams. Still not the recommended dosage for my tank which is a 150. And within 2 days the cyano was almost wipedout. However I had about a 2 sq ft colony of Xenia that stopped pulsing, and within about a week all my corals were eradicated along side my beloved blue jaw trigger.

This happened back in June ans I still I'm trying my hardest to revive my tank. I've done close to a 200 gallon water changes, stunning activated carbon in a reactor and I'm still afraid to put a coral in my tank. It's funny how something that cost me 20 bucks ended up costing me well over 1000!

I would highly recommended getting a calculator and actually measure the dose exactly. And be sure to take into account the amount of water volume your rock takes up. If you don't you can easily dose up to 2 times the right dose

i've used it twice now and just dialed my skimmer back during the treatments. won't be using it again since the results, while pretty dramatic, were only temporary. i'm thinking i need new bulbs, which are to be delivered today and hopefully, that will take care of the problem.
