Cheto questions

How do I know when its time to remove some cheto? It floats and the top turns reddish? What do I cut away? some from the top?? Bottom? center? sides?

well it doesn't matter where u cut it off. the cheto should not be red it should be like a dark green and it floats because probably u have alot of bubbles in the chamber. but when u do cut it have a bucket of your salt water from the tank and put the cut cheto in there. When your done cutting your cheto shake it up in the bucket so that u dnt loose no life. and then poure the rest back in your tank and now u can eather throw the cheto away or give it to some one. P.S its ok to cut alot becausethat stuff grows really really fast, but that all depends on the light that ur using to grow the cheto

The red is probably diatomes or cyano growing in it. Mine gets brown/yellow diatomes growing in it, and it adds to the grossness factor of cutting it. It's smelly when you cut it too

You can remove it any time, and can hardly over trim it. Just cut away any part of it, center, sides, top, anything. Just cut it. It's just a big ball of all the same crap.

Same, here I get nasty ugly looking stuff on the top of mine. Its like hair, u gotta cut it. Mine always come back, but I rather have it in the sump then the display.

Basically anything bad growing in the sump and not the hisplay is a good thing IMO. The nasty stuff has to grow somewhere.

Not only is mine ugly as sin and smell bad, but I have to keep it in the display of my nano because I don't/can't have a sump on it because it's a nanocube. The upside is that the 150w halide makes it grow like CRAZY.
