Chevron and Naso in a 200G 7' tank

Has any one had any luck having both a Chevron and Naso in a larger tank?

Which one would you add first? How long would you wait until you added the second or add both right away? Would you try and get one larger than the other to prevent issues?

I would prefer the chevron and would simply avoid the naso if I felt that there would be issues. I was wondering if these two might peacefully coexist in a 7' tank given the fact that they swim in the same waters in the wild. I would think that issues might develop if a chevron started bigger than the naso when the naso started to get a lot larger it might feel the need to assert itself. While both are listed as peacefully that means nothing esp when both are tangs. Any one with experience please chime in.

I don't know what size tank the Naso needs but they should not have any trouble with each other they are very different as far as tangs go.

There should not be any issues at all but just to be on the extra safe side, either add them at the same time or add the Naso first and then the Chevron.
I love Naso tangs they really have a personality and are attention hogs, they get large but tend to be the friendliest fish in the tank and will often eat from your finger tips.

Do you think that by adding a larger naso and a smaller chevron it would actually cut down on any issues. I often feel like there is a grater chance of issues if you have two fish the same size when it gets to be a larger difference there is less perceived threat and less of a chance of territory issues as one is the clear boss. esp with a smaller chevron in a 7' tank.

So the other question is will a 7' 24x24 tank be enough room for a naso?

I would think that these would be the only two tangs in this tank keeping the bio load light and as peaceful a list of tankmates as possible. I like the idea of rescuing a naso from a smaller tank that is my plan but then timing becomes difficult.

From my experience, both fish are relatively passive with regard to each other. The Naso may eventually out grow that sized tank as they love to swim.

I've had a naso or two (or four) over the years, and worked at a LFS back in the day...the naso tang seems to be one of the most laid back reef fish I've ever encountered. Now that I know how big they get and how much room they need, I can't believe some of the tanks I had one in.

Tampa reefer would a 7' x 24" x 24" be too small of a tank for a Naso in your opinion? I have seen one in a 90.and that really freaked me out. I would like to ensure I don't have that feeling in this tank.

Sorry for the late reply! Friday was my sons 4th birthday and we've been going non stop since.

7x2x2 is good enough for a small one to start out in, the fish won't outgrow it for quite some time. The only downfall is trying to figure out what to do with it when the time comes to rehome it. I'm seriously considering not adding a naso species to my new 8x4x2 tank just because it won't be able to be it's home for it's entire life. (And I used to have one in a 125, 180 etc) Very sad because the blonde naso and vlamingii are 2 of my favorite reef fish. They both went from tiny babies to 6+ inches in a year or so. :eek2:

hmm i wish mine would grow (or on second thought i hope it continues to grow slowly lol) ive had him for a year now and hes maybe 1" bigger (grand total of about 4.5" and 5" including tail) i just wrote it off since they have relatively long lives.

So how large is an appropriately sized tank? 10' 12' or should these not be in our hobby at all? Who has a 12' tank? I have seen them a lot in the LFS. I know some one that has one in a 4ft 90. While I think that is pretty crazy I know that the fish stores will sell them to anyone. I certainly don't want to get a fish that will not do well or grow out. that is why I chose a Tomini for my 75G as I think it is pretty much one of the few tang that don't get all that large.

How fast does a naso get bigger than would be OK in a 7' tank? THEDLO how old is yours? how long have you had him? I would imagine you have a 6' tank does he seem cramped?

Tampa reefer I would think that 8' x 4' would give some serious swimming room. sounds like they don't belong in the hobby if you can't house one in that.

I have looked at a 10' tank but I would want to put a tank that large as a room devider and this one had a black back.

So how quickly would it get too big in your opinion tampareefer? I was hopign to rescure one out of a tank that was too small but it sounds like I would be rescuing it out of a tank way to small only to put it in a tank that would be too small too soon.

Mine has been in my care for a year now. No he doesnt seem cramped, I have a 120g 4' long. I have maybe about 80lbs of rock so at his current size he plenty of room. In the next year I plan on getting a bigger tank.+400 is what Im planning for.
