Children's Hospital Tanks

Koddie Doo

Czar of All ThingsAwesome
Anyone know who services them? I have unfortunately spent a lot of time there the last month or so and they have TON of tanks. They all are looking a bit rough.
I am not trying to through there servicer under the bus, but They could really use some help. I am sure that the average person thinks "hey look nemo", but I see aptasia and hair algae.

I would love to see the club take some of the funds (if we have any, I have never seen a balance sheet, but to be fair I have never asked) and donate to help get some of the tanks looking better for the kids.

Might be a good way for us to get our name out there as well...

Any thoughts?

Typically a store or aquarium maintenance company handles tanks in the different hospitals.

I'm not 100% sure where we are sitting currently, but who says we need money to make them look better. If they have nuisance items in the tank, those only cost time to get out. We also have a very generous CDP that could possibly add corals to the tanks if possible.

I am sure they pay a small fortune to "maintain" those tanks...
Not sure if the company responsible for them would take too kindly to having other hands messing around in them, even if the tanks need the attention.
I don't pretend to have a clue what's involved in professional tank maintenance. There's more than enough variables to keep me busy/guessing on a daily basis....In my tanks!! I can only try to imagine seeing them only once/twice a week, and wondering who has put how much of what (food) in it since I was there last.
And, unfortunately, most of the general population probably doesn't recognize the difference between a pristine and "pretty clean" tank. LOL, when I first got started in this madness, I remember asking the kid at the LFS what was cool looking shiny green bubbles on the rock, and how much for them.:hmm3:
But, it never hurts to ask.

Maybe a good place to start is to track down the facilities people who would be in charge of hiring someone to take care of the tanks. And Tige21v is correct, I'm sure they do pay a small fortune to have them maintained.

But, an aptasia issue doesn't happen overnight. Just informing the facilities people what to tell the maintenance people to take care of could be a good start.

How many tanks are there? A quick Google search shows a few of them, but it's only one pic.

I dont think one person is responsible for all of them, ive seen different maintenance people work on different tanks.

Kiddie, have you reached out to them yet? It's a big undertaking, but if you're interested why don't you offer your services and get back with us on what you find out. I think the club being able to help them with maintenance would be a stretch, but it doesn't hurt to let them know what you think could be improved on. Plus, we could probably donate a lot of frags if they are interested. Usually, these systems are contracted out, so that's where it gets tricky.

Nanick,

I have not, but I will if the club would support it.

Maybe you can barter with them. If you're there, you're incurring some expenses. Tell them you'll offer your aquarium skills to them for free as long as they'll do the same.
