Chili Pepper Montipora stung

reggiepe

Seriously?
Hey all,

I recently got a frag of Chili Pepper Montipora and it was on my frag rack doing fine for the past 3 weeks. However, when I was doing some house cleaning I accidentally placed a frag of hammer coral near it. They were beside each other for the just about a day. I realized what I had done and moved the monti away. I now see the tissue that has been stung and I am thouroughly disgusted with my newbie error. There is probably about a 10% loss of tissue on the frag right now. My question is, will the tissue continue to recede and it will all eventually die, shoulr a frag the frag to make it stop, or now that I have moved it, will it slowly recover? I really liked that frag when I found it at the LFS and am so disappointed. Any thoughts and suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks

Rich

IME you should be fine, as long as it's not a very tiny frag. All other conditions being good, it will quickly recover and continue to grow, those Montipora danae -type things can be pretty tough. My only negative experience is that tiny (1/4") frags can go downhill in a hurry if they get an insult. Also I have found chili pepper to be less delicate than, say, superman.

That's good news. Thank you! The frag is a little over a 1" x 1" square. I know that monti's are tougher then most realize. I had full size colonies of an orange and purple almost totally bleach out their colors from what I assume was an alk issue. Both bounced back in quarantine and their colors seem more vibrant today. At the time I thought they were gone. I was hoping that this little bugger was a tough one too.

Thanks again,
Rich

If the recession continues beyond where it is in any way, i would suggest either a quick scrub of the dead part plus a tiny bit of tissue with a brush and or a thin coating of super glue

sopmetimes when contact like that is made there is chemicals or whatever from the coral that burned it still there.

if the death has stopped I woulndt worry about it, but something to watch for
