Chiller and Apex ??

Hey there fellow reefers! I have a quick question regarding my chiller.

I have a JBJ Arctica 1/3hp. I would like to control it with my Apex but I am not sure if what I want to do will harm the chiller. Basically I want to know if it is OK to cut power to the chiller while it is running(chilling).

Reason being I currently have it set up with the built in thermostat to kick on at 79 but it then cools a full 2 degrees+ before shutting off. The chiller is a bit overkill for my 80gal so this process only takes about 45 minutes and I drop the temp close to 2 1/2 degrees in that period.

What I would like to do is set the chiller temp at something like 75 degrees(not too low in case the outlet gets stuck on) then use the Apex to turn the chiller on and off. That way I can dial in just a 1 degree swing at a time.

Is this safe for the power to be killed to the chiller in mid cycle?

Thanks in advance,
Aaron

This is exactly the way I used to do it. 75 might be a little low but will work for the chiller stat.
You will not harm the compressor doing this or the fan. Only slight possibility might be inrush to the controller. Nothing I would worry about though.
