Chiller Died - What to do???

I have a 6 year old Aqualogic Delta flow-through 1/3 chiller. It died today... I think some of the electrical components got wet during a water change accidentally. I have no idea how to even begin to fix this thing. Who can I call to repair it? My LFS is no help (what else is new).

The other option is do I just get a new one. This one is 6 years old. What is the average life expectancy of a chiller?

Also, if I do replace it what are the top models these days? I was happy with the Aqualogic, but I know there have been many advances and new competitors to the market.

Any advice would be helpful. I am in West Palm Beach, Florida if any body knows a person who repairs tchillers in my area.

An air conditioning company with a sharp refrigeration guy could fix it for you. or look in the yellow pages under refrigeration suppliers, they might have some in house service. It aint going to be cheap.

My Aqualogic chiller needed repair a couple of years ago. Fortunately for me, they are located here in San Diego, so I didn't have to ship it. However, they still charged a $75 fee upfront just to open the case and diagnose the problem. Then any repair will cost you additional $$$.

So in your case, you will have to pay shipping both ways, the $75 diagnosis fee, and any repair costs. In the end, it will cost a significant fraction of a new unit to get it repaired (not to mention the lack of a waranty that you will get with a new unit).

If you are still interested in repair, contact Aqualogic:

8268 Clairemont Mesa Blvd.
Suite #302
San Diego, CA 92111
Phone - (858) 292-4773
Fax - (858) 279-0537
e-mail - info@aqualogicinc.com

Good luck.

Jeff

You know, as summer came and it started getting warmer I started looking at chillers, like $700.
I saw a post by sk8tr suggesting an in window AC unit, and it just totally made sense.
$200 and both my living room and aquarium are nice and comfy!
Funny, I wouldn't have bought one just for me, but the fish no problem!
It's nice to treat them and myself at the same time!

Works when you're tank isn't in a huge open floorplan and running the AC causes you bill to jump by $200 :)
