Chiller on bc29

Let me ask this. I installed a current 1/15 chiller today on my biocube. I used the stock oceanic pump for it as it had the proper flow requirements and the pump was moved to chamber 2. The return from the chiller is in chamber 3 where it goes into the pump area for the return/display. That pump is now a maxi jet 1200. The temp is set at 78. The chiller is located in the tank stand. I have noticed tonight that it keeps turning on and off every few minutes. The temp gets down to 78, then slowly climbs to 80, then repeat. Is this normal when you first set it up? I was told to give it a day or two to reach the proper temp. Any help or ideas? Thanks.

It doesn't sound normal to me. I have a AP24 with a JBJ 1/10 chiller and a big mag pump (I forget the size but it is bigger) running external. The chiller almost identically matches the temp on my Apex so I let it do it's own controlling an use Apex as a fail safe. During the summer it only runs a couple of times a day. Have you verified your chiller temps with another thermometer? Unless your room is cooking then your tank shouldn't be heating up that fast. And I run a MH so I'm pumping plenty of heat.

Woke up this morning and doing same thing. The chiller sat for about four years before I used it. Moved the chiller pump over some more. Checked temp with thermometer and it says 80. Could the chiller be bad? Thinking about just turning it off. Don't absolutely need it. Tank will just run around 81 or so.
