Chiller Question

I'm getting the JBJ Artica Chiller and I'm wondering if I should connect it and run it through a pump or can I connect it to the drain pipe?

In addition, is this the best choice for a skimmer?
1/10 HP for a 40g

I wouldn't run anything on a drain line that will create head loss. The chiller will slow the drain and could (over time) slow it enough to create a flood. Run it on a pump.

1/10 HP should be fine for a 40 gallon. I would either run it off your return pump if you have enough power there, or use a dedicated return pump. I use a Mag 3 for my Current USA Prime 1/10 HP chiller on my 60 gallon.
