Chiller?

Hi all, I have a 24 gal JBJ nano cube, if I keep the top open and the A/C running to where it's cold cold cold in the room I can get the temperature of the tank to around 79 degrees. If I don't do that, it goes up to about 84 degrees. Do I need a chiller? Any recommendations?

Have you tried a small fan to blow across the water surface? This usually cools the water 2-4 deg.

Try a fan first,just like sps said. It should work....

You can buy a temp controller and attach the fan to it so you do not need to turn it on and off manualy.

I'll ask my question in this rather then make a new one..

I have a room that gets maybe 82 degrees on a hot day, but usually sits around 76-80. It is not AC'd. I'm owrried that if I start my tank in this enviroment that I'll need a chiller. Could I get away with fans?

You'd be surprised what fans can do.

84 isn't even warm for reef animals. You have absolutely no need for a chiller.

If the tank has been hitting 84, it will be safe up to 86-88.

77-86 with an average around 82.

as temp goes up so will your algea on the glass. temp fluxuations in the ocean is natural

Agreed. 84 is a bit high for my personal comfort, but you can get away with it. Beware that if you decide to add fans that they cause a lot of evaporation. More top offs will be necessary.

My entire system is cooled by 1 Vornado fan from Linens n Things or Bed Bath Beyond. It just blows over the refugium.

I'm in Arizona, so in the summer my tank never gets below 82.5 and runs to 85.5 deg

My tank is at 83 degrees at the moment and has gotten as high as 86 this summer and I haven't had any losses. I think that a fan would do wonders as had been mentioned earlier.
