China wrasse- Anampses neoguinaicus

29reef

It's all about the flow
I was fortunate enough to find two small healthy females this week at a LFS. This isn't an expensive fish, but my search left me with very few first hand experiences, and photos of this fish in an aquarium. If you have one please share more about it. From what I know I expect this fish to be similiar to a cross between a leopard(hard to get eating) and a coris(gets big and good at hunting). Please let me know what you know about these neat fish. I have split up my females for now. They both are happy to eat all my pods, but havent taken to prepared foods yet. They show some interest, but don't quite understand why food is floating and not on the rocks.

These guys are great Anampses and the males in full color are beautiful. If they are already in your DT, then I'd only tell you to be wary of internal parasites. I've found that they severely infect 1:2 that I've ever owned and I always treat any new Anampses for internals whilst in QT similarly to how LA does it. It's a real pain to try to treat them in DT. Good luck!

i dont know but i'm interested in these and had asked about them a while back but didnt get many responses - just assumed a lot of people dont keep them for whatever reason. Would love to know how your experience with them goes as im still pretty interested in these fish.

I have two but they are relatively new additions and still in QT. Not really different from any other anampses I own in terms of care...

they shouldn't get that big either, max out aroung 6" or at least thats as big as they've seen at the LFS here.

My 2.5" female is now eating mysis and brine easily. The 1" female is not eating prepared foods but its got a healthy gut on it from it's diet of live pods so I think I'm in good shape for both of them making it. Knock on wood....
