Chinese cob led initial review

I purchased these leds near the beginning of march and after much talking with the manufacturer I got my led. I was afraid they were scamming me at first because they dodged all my actual questions but it could have just been the language barrier. First day I received these from Dhl and was expecting to have to pay the duty fee but the company took care of it by listing the light as a $35 sample. I examined the box before I accepted the box and signed for it.

I then got the box inside and promptly cut it open and removed the instructions for the wifi, which is a pretty big pamphlet that honestly doesn't help much in the set up. The setup requires that your phone is on the router that is closest to the led and the way I got it to see the light was to scan the qr code in the light in the app. I'd reset the app and my phone and updated my phone as well.

All in all the build quality seems great, lenses are clear and the metal is all like the other Chinese boxes. One HUGE indicator that they are stepping the game up is the actual aluminum heat sink the leds are mounted to inside the unit. 3 green fans that are a bit loud but can easily be washed out by room noise. The leds produce a fair amount of heat when you hold your hand close enough but not enough to heat the area they are in.

The spread is nice on my display size with the led hanging 13 inches above the water. I do get a lot of shimmer that I don't believe is disco balling.

Color temperature is pleasing to the eye even the whites only are very cool and it casts hard shadows all over. It's very directional and I don't get a lot of light spill into the room like with my t5.

Controllability is cool there are seasons settings and manual settings and auto and timer settings. Each with their own functionality. I'm using the auto setting with all the little nuances set for each time of day. I have it ramp up very slightly.

One thing I noticed was if I set the cob leds to 10 on the app the leds flicker off and on and that worries me. I have my settings so they never get down to 10 just 11.

I don't know exactly how many watts it's drawing from the wall socket.

I think this is a mix of both at what is a 10 on the dial.

I'll get some more when it turns on tomorrow.

So being a cheaper fixture I saw through the vent the giant glob of hot glue holding the switches to be case. Lol

So far I think it's a good value for a knock off ap700.

A couple days and some more adjustments on my daily light schedule and I'm happy with it for now. All the corals open up wide and nothing's is angry about it.

I did have a Xenia colony melt because of low nitrates. As my fish aren't in the tank right now.
